Who makes them

GPT is OpenAI's model family and powers ChatGPT. Claude is Anthropic's family and powers the Claude app. Both companies release several sizes and update them regularly.

How they feel to use

Claude is often described as thoughtful and careful with a natural writing voice; it is a favourite for coding and long documents. GPT is broadly capable with the largest set of features and plug-ins in its consumer app.

For most people the honest answer is that either will do the job. Try both free tiers with a real task you care about.

What they cost
