Start from the task, not the model

Everyday writing and questions: a mid-tier model from any major provider. Coding: a frontier Claude or GPT model, with an open-weight model for bulk work. Long documents: Gemini for context and price. Live information: a search-grounded model.

Then apply a budget

Then check the ecosystem
